Undergraduate Courses

The Department of Mathematics conducts Applied Mathematics and Pure Mathematics modules  (Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3) for the  Bachelor of Science Degree Programme of 3-year duration offered by the Faculty of science, and the Department of Mathematics offers Bachelor of Science Honours in Mathematics Degree Programmes of 4-year duration:
  • Mathematics (Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics)
  • Mathematics (Pure Mathematics and Statistics)

APPLIED MATHEMATICS

Level 01
Compliance with Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF) Level Descriptors:
These course units being offered at SLQF Level 3, the course-specific learning outcomes described above are expected to contribute students to achieve the following generic learning outcomes as required by SLQF Level 3 descriptors:
1.demonstrate knowledge and understanding of concepts and principles of the areas of study;
2. present and interpret qualitative and quantitative data;
3. develop initial arguments and make some judgments in accordance with basic theories and concepts of the areas of study;
4. communicate results of studies reliably;
5. undertake further training and develop new skills within a managed environment;
6. demonstrate qualities and transferable skills including ICT skills necessary for employment; 
7. carry out a range of routine activities under guidance;
8. exercise supervising responsibility in the implementation of routine work and manage limited resources within the work place; and
9. exercise personal responsibility and leadership in some tasks in the work place
