Day 3 of the orientation program at the Department of Industrial Management unfolded with energy, excitement, and purpose, setting the stage for a transformative academic journey. From exploring degree pathways to connecting with campus life and gaining inspiration from the guest speakers, the day was designed to leave a lasting impact on the new batch of students for the B.Sc (Hons) IT/ MIT program.
The day began with an engaging introduction to the B.Sc (Hons) in Information Technology and the B.Sc (Hons) in Management and Information Technology degree programs led by Dr. Chathumi Kavirathne and Dr. Keerthi Wijayasiriwardhana, students gained a deeper understanding of the program content, specializations, and the opportunities awaiting them during their academic journey.
Following that, students were divided into small groups and assigned guides who led them on a comprehensive tour of the department and university. This experience allowed them to explore key facilities, services, and vibrant campus spaces. The guides provided detailed explanations on how to navigate the university, access essential services, and make the most of the resources available. This hands-on introduction ensured that students felt confident and well-prepared to utilize the infrastructure effectively thoughout their academic journey.
The afternoon continued with a highly insightful session led by Mrs. Subha Rathnayaka & Mrs Madhu Akwaththa, the Assistant Student Counselors of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya. They acknowledged that many students face challenges when transitioning to university life and focused on how to cope with these difficulties, offering practical advice on navigating the emotional hurdles that come with this transition. They highlighted the importance of knowing where to seek help in university and providing the students with crucial emotional support for their journey ahead.
The day concluded with an inspiring guest session by Ms. Miyuli Kalubowila, the Founder and CEO of Generation Alpha. Her insightful talk focused on how to prepare for professionalism, emphasizing the importance of uncovering one’s unique value proposition, enhancing essential skills, and building meaningful connections with industry professionals.
The entire day reflected the Department of Industrial Management's steadfast commitment to supporting its students as they embark on their new academic journey.
