The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) conducted a comprehensive session for first-year students on the 21st of December 2023. The session, titled "Exploring the Export Market," aimed to equip students with valuable insights into the dynamic landscape of Sri Lanka's export industry.

The session featured distinguished guest speakers, including Mrs. Vajira Kularathna, Assistant Director of Sri Lanka Export Development Board, who is also an accomplished alumna of the Department of Industrial Management at the University of Kelaniya. Her vast experience and expertise brought a unique perspective to the session, enriching the students' understanding of the intricate workings of the export market.

Joining Mrs. Kularathna was Mr. Dinesh Attanayake, an esteemed Export Promotion Officer of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board. Mr. Attanayake shared his wealth of knowledge, providing students with practical insights into the challenges and opportunities inherent in the export sector. The combination of academic expertise and real-world experience offered students a well-rounded perspective on the complexities of the export market.

A highly informative lecture centered around the Good Market concept was effectively conducted by Mrs. Achala Samaradiwakara, the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Good Market, on December 13th, 2023.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mrs. Achala Samaradiwakara for sharing her knowledge and experiences with the first-year undergraduates of the Department of Industrial Management in University of Kelaniya. Her expertise shed light on how the Good Market model could serve as an exemplary solution for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) seeking to attain market recognition and establish a robust brand presence both locally and internationally.

The lecture not only served as a platform for theoretical exploration but also provided practical insights into problem-solving strategies and critical thinking within the context of industry dynamics. By delving into the principles of the Good Market, students were able to grasp the potential impact of ethical and sustainable business practices, reinforcing their understanding of the evolving landscape in the realm of industry and technology.

The first-year undergraduates of the Department of Industrial Management in University of Kelaniya visited an exhibition at the National Engineering Research and Development Center (NERDC) on December 1st, 2023. This exhibition provided students with the opportunity to foster an appreciation for the significance of Research and Development (R&D) in the industrial landscape.

This visit was primarily organized to provide students with a firsthand experience of the innovative projects and groundbreaking technologies showcased at the exhibition. The students gained valuable insights into the transformative impact that research and development endeavors can have on industries. Moreover, the exhibition encouraged the students to envision their potential contributions to future innovations.

The first-year undergraduates of the Department of Industrial Management in University of Kelaniya participated in a field visit to Tantri Trailers (Pvt) Ltd on November 28th and 29th, 2023, as part of their academic curriculum in the Industry and Technology module.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. John Haputantri, Chairman of Tantri Trailers, Mr. Athula Haputantri, Managing Director, and Mr. Menaka Nuwan, Human Resource Manager, for graciously granting permission for our students to visit Tantri Trailers (Pvt) Ltd and gain practical insights into the operations of the industry.

We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the supervising faculty of the module, Dr. Chathura Rajapaksha, Ms. Ishenka Udeshinie, and Mr. Janith Nanayakkara, for their invaluable guidance throughout this educational endeavor.
