With a rich history of producing innovative thinkers and industry leaders, once again, Department of Industrial Management, University of Kelaniya welcomed the new batch students of BSc (Hons) IT/MIT program for the academic year 2024/2025. The department has set a remarkable record as one of the earliest programs among all Sri Lankan state universities and 2nd program in University of Kelaniya, to commence for the new cohort students. The inauguration ceremony was held on 20th of January 2025 at Department Auditorium, marking the beginning of an exciting academic journey was attended by faculty members, academic and non-academic staff, parents, and the incoming students, all eager to celebrate this significant milestone. Notably, this year, for the first time, the department extended an invitation to parents to join the orientation program ensuring the collaborative strong support system for the students as they embark on their academic journey.
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp and the welcome speech from Dr. Dilani Wickramaarachchi, Acting Head of the Department of Industrial Management. Further, Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya and Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science delivered the keynote address, warmly welcoming the students and emphasizing the institution’s commitment in academic excellence, personal growth, and innovation.
Following the formal inauguration ceremony, the first session on academic literacy was conducted by Senior Lecturer, Dr. Chathura Rajapaksha who introduced students to essential academic skills, resources, and strategies for success. Meanwhile, a parallel session for the parents was conducted by our department Senior Lecturers Dr. Ruwan Wickramararchchi, Dr. Dilani Wickramararchchi, and Mr. Dinesh Asanka providing insights into how they could support their children during this transformative phase.
The program concluded with a heartwarming introduction session, where students and academic staff had the opportunity to meet and interact. Each student was assigned a personal tutor, ensuring they have a dedicated mentor to guide them throughout their academic journey.
The Department of Industrial Management’s commitment towards students extends beyond academics, ensuring to create a supportive and nurturing environment by creating meaningful connections between students and academic staff.
