Introduction
The Higher Diploma Programme in Information and Communication Technology (HDICT) is expected to support the large majority of students who are unable to get admission to a degree program to obtain an entry-level qualification in IT from a reputed university in the country. Upon the successful completion of the programme, the students will be able to seek employment in IT firms while continuing their further studies in IT. This programme will be a valuable opportunity for students who are following Arts and other non-computing degree programmes, both internally as well as externally, to obtain an additional qualification that makes them more employable in the job market. Such qualifications would enable them to contribute to digital transformation initiatives in their respective workplaces effectively.
Programme Objectives
The two-year HDICT programme provides graduates from various academic disciplines (both computing and non-computing related) with the opportunity to acquire the necessary skills in the field of IT. The HDICT Programme will be delivered by adopting a learner-centered, problem-based approach. The learners will be given the opportunity to construct their learning through hands-on activities to solve simple and more complex problems, which will be supported by lectures, demonstrations, classroom discussions as well as simulations. Soft skills development will be given top priority, and opportunities will be given in every course module to develop their critical thinking skills as well as teamwork and presentation skills.
The specific objectives of the programme could be listed as follows.
The proposed HDICT programme is designed in such a way that the candidates are given the opportunity to start from the basic level and then advance their competencies in using cutting edge tools and technologies in diverse domains of IT.
On successful completion of the program, the candidates would be able to:
60% of the applicants who have followed either Physical or Biological Science streams or learnt Information and Communication Technology as a subject will be selected to follow the programme. The remaining 40% will be selected from the other streams. The Z-score of the applicants will be the decisive factor.
Proposed intake: maximum number of students/year: 100
