Programme Structure
The MSc programme is offered in a dual mode, combining online and onsite learning to provide flexibility while maintaining strong practical training.
- Lectures: Conducted online.
- Practicals: Laboratory work and field activities are conducted onsite at the University of Kelaniya / relevant field sites.

Delivery Mode
The programme follows a blended (dual) delivery format:
- Lectures: Conducted online (weekend schedule)
- Laboratory practical sessions: Conducted onsite at the University of Kelaniya
- Field visits and research activities: Conducted onsite
- Research supervision: Provided through both online and in-person meetings
This structure allows flexibility for working professionals while ensuring strong practical and research training.

Students undertake an independent research project under academic supervision and submit a dissertation.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants (Local and International) must possess one of the following qualifications:
- B.Sc. (Honours/Special) degree in Botany, Plant Science, Applied Science, Food Science, Molecular Biology & Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Zoology, Microbiology, Chemistry (with Biological Science subjects), OR
- B.Sc. (Agriculture) or B.Sc. (Agricultural Technology and Management) OR
- B.Sc. (General) degree with one of the above disciplines as a subject, OR
- Any other equivalent qualification acceptable to the University of Kelaniya.
* International applicants may be required to provide proof of English proficiency and certified academic transcripts.
