Postgraduate Studies

It is our philosophy that each graduate student should develop a broad understanding of basic biological principles in addition to obtaining specialized skills needed by the contemporary researcher.

The Department offers postgraduate research degrees at M Sc, MPhil and PhD levels and a taught Masters (M Sc) degree programme. Research work undertaken is carried out in modern, well-equipped laboratories. In addition the students have free access to good library and computer facilities including the Internet.

Department members pursue research in multitude of subject areas. Many have achieved eminence in respective fields and some have won prestigious awards.

Applicants who wish to register for M.Phil/Ph.D degrees should ensure that they have research funds /grants to enable them to undertake the proposed study. Relevant information and application forms can be obtained from the Senior Assistant registrar, Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya. Applicants are advised to consult Head/Plant & Molecular Biology for further information prior to submitting a formal application.
