The workshop on Introductory Statistics was held on 23rd and 24th of June 2018 at the Department of Statistics & Computer Science, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya for 20 participants. Resource persons of this workshop were Dr. A. P. Hewaarachchi, Dr. U. P. Liyanage, Dr. D. D. M. Jayasundara and Ms. A. M. C. H. Attanayake.
A three-day training workshop on “Drinking and Waste water analysis techniques” organized by the Research and services Center & the Department of Chemistry was conducted for the participants from different institutes. This workshop was held on 8th – 10th June 2018 at the Department of Chemistry. Participants have gained hands on experience and subject knowledge in standard water analysis techniques. Prof. Namal Priyantha of University of Peradeniya, Dr. Indrika Abeygunawardena from University of Kelaniya (Retired) and Dr. Chamini Hemachandra from University of Colombo were acted as external resource persons while Prof. J. A. Liyanage, Dr. Sri Skandaraja and Dr. Russel De Silva were contributed internally.
The Annual Education USA Spring University Fair 2018 was conducted by the RSC jointly with the United States –Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US-SLFC) on 16th February 2108 at the Faculty Board Room of the Faculty of Science. Representatives from Representatives from several leading universities; University of Colorado Boulder, St. Cloud State University, California State University-Chico and Virginia International University were presented at this event. The graduates, undergraduates and the academic staff of the university those who wish to undertake postgraduate studies in USA were presented to obtain accurate, comprehensive & current information about the degree programmers in these universities.
The workshop on Geo statistics was successfully conducted on 13th January with 21 participants at the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management. The main resource person was Mr. V. T. Nadarajan, GIS Consultant, GIS solutions (Pvt) Ltd. and the event was coordinated by Dr. (Mrs.) V. P. A. Weerasinghe of the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management.
A workshop on “R: Software for Statistical Modelling & Computing” was successfully held on 13th December 2017 in the Department of Statistics & Computer Science, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya. The workshop was collaboratively organized by the Research and Services Centre and the Department of Statistics & Computer Science. Participants were gained hands-on experience in learning the software through basics of R software, simulation with R and exploratory data analysis. The resource person contributed to this workshop was Dr. Sameera Viswakula, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Statistics & Computer Science, University of Colombo.
