Scientific Research Workshop-II for 4th year research students of the Faculty of Science was conducted on 08th December 2017 for 60 participants at the Faculty Board Room University of Kelaniya. Resource persons were Prof. Asoka Pathiratne and Prof. Mangalika Hettiarachchi from Department of Zoology and Environmental Management.
The RSC of the Faculty of Science hosted the Annual Education USA Fall University Fair 2017 jointly with the United States – Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US-SLFC) on 2nd of September. More than 100 students from different faculties were attended to meet representatives from 6 US universities to find out about opportunities available for postgraduate studies. Another similar event was held on 20th September. Two representatives from the University of Huston-Victoria, USA and about 60 students were present.
A Research workshop on “R Software for Modeling and Computing” organized by the General Research Committee of Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) and Research Services Centre (RSC) of the Faculty of Science was successfully held on the 14th of July 2017 at the Information & Communication Technology Centre (ICT Centre) of the University of Kelaniya. The objective of this workshop was to inform the undergraduate and postgraduate research students who engage in Researches regarding “R software”. The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Ajith De Mel, the Head of the Department of Mathematics of the University of Ruhuna. Dr. (Mrs) Rangika Bandara of the Department of the Zoology and Environmental Management, the Coordinator, Dr. (Mrs) D. S. M. De Silva, Director of the RSC, other academic staff members, many undergraduate and postgraduate research students participated in this Research workshop.
A training workshop on “Modeling and Simulations in Mathematical Biology” organized by the Research and Services Centre and the Department of Mathematics was held on the 8th and 9th of July 2017 at the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya. This was conducted by Dr. Edward J. Allen and Dr. Linda J. S. Allen of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the Texas Tech University, Texas, USA. The event was Coordinated by Dr. D. K. Mallawa Arachchi, Dr. W.P. T. Hansameenu & Dr. K. K. K. R. Perera.
The Research and Services Centre (RSC) of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya successfully concluded a one-day workshop on “Scientific Research” on 02nd June 2017 at the Board Room of the Faculty of Science. The main objective of this workshop was to improve research skills of 4th year undergraduates of the Faculty of Science which facilitates to come up with proper scientific research with good quality. Key areas covered are, how to conduct literature Surveys-I by Mr. L. A. Jayatissa (Librarian), How to conduct literature Surveys-II by Mrs. A. P. U. De Silva (Assistant Librarian), Common errors in data handling (Prof. M. J. S. Wijeratne) and Proposal writing & research methodology (Prof. (Mrs) A. Pathiratne)
