Two day short course on Remote Sensing for Climate Action & Environmental Management

Dates: September 6th and 7th ,  9 to 4 pm

Venu: Department of Zoology & Environmental Management, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya

Course Outcomes

  • Grasp core principles of UAV/Drone technology in fundamental mechanics, navigation systems, and flight operations of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles).
  • Master the basics of airborne surveying of aerial data acquisition, flight planning, and geospatial accuracy for mapping and monitoring tasks.
  • Exposure to UAV-based response and planning in disaster risk reduction by giving practical insight into UAV-based remote sensing for rapid damage assessment during floods, landslides, droughts, and other climate-related disasters.
  • Exposure to diverse drone applications to discover real-world case studies and applications of drones in ecosystem monitoring, land use change, wetland management, biodiversity mapping, and carbon tracking.
  • Gain hands-on flight training on pre-flight checks, manual, and mission-based operations.
  • Process and visualize real-world data by generating maps for diverse spatial analysis: Vegetation analysis. water body mapping, land degradation analysis, and more using drone-derived data
