Introduction

 

The Knuckles Mountain Range, located in central Sri Lanka, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stunning beauty and biodiversity. Named after its resemblance to a clenched fist, the range consists of rugged peaks, lush valleys, and diverse ecosystems, making it a paradise for nature lovers, hikers, and wildlife enthusiasts.

Biodiversity and Wildlife

The Knuckles Range is home to an incredible variety of flora and fauna, including many species that are endemic to Sri Lanka. Some of the animals you might encounter include:

  • Mammals:
    • Leopards (rare sightings)
    • Purple-faced langur (an endemic monkey species)
    • Wild boar
    • Sambar deer
    • Giant squirrels
  • Birds:
    • Sri Lanka blue magpie
