Prof. V.P.A. Weerasinghe of the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, University of Kelaniya, has been awarded a prestigious research grant under the National Agricultural Research Plan (NARP) of Sri Lanka – 2025, funded through the Research Projects for the National University System. The funded project, titled “Effect of Climate Change on Export-Oriented Mango (Mangifera indica L.) Diversity, Production, Value Addition, and Marketing in the Dry Zone of Sri Lanka with Spatiotemporal Mapping of Existing Climate-Resilient Mango Varieties”, holds significant national importance. It aims to explore and examine the export potential of climate-resilient mango varieties as value-added products by analyzing market potential history over the past 25 years using regression analysis and land suitability analysis for the selected varieties in the Dry Zone of Sri Lanka. This will help to make recommendations to optimize net economic benefits for conservation and promotion of mangoes of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy (SLCARP) has approved a grant of Rs 4.945 million, to be utilized over a period of two years for the implemention of this project |
