An educational and outreach program to uplift the lives of school children from Aranayake land slide area was organized and conducted by the Zoology society of the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management on the 10 th of July at the Faculty of Science premises.

The program consisted of counselling, Science and English teaching sessions and outreach activities to enhance the soft skills of Forty (40) G.C.E. (O/L) students from the affected area. The counselling session was
conducted by Dr. Susima Weligamage, Director of Personal Counselling Unit, University of Kelaniya. Office bearers of the Zoology Society and third year Zoology students conducted the event successfully. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Head/Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, Prof. W.U Chandrasekere and Senior Lecturer Dr. Mangala Ganehiarachchi, the Director
of the Personal Counselling Unit, Dr. Susima Weligamage the Advisor of the Zoology Society, Prof. L. D. Amarasinghe, the Senior Treasurer, Dr. Gayani Rajapaksa, officers from the Aranayake Divisional Secretariat, and parent representatives. The event was organized with the support of Aranayake Divisional Secretariat. “Aswadduma” is the first step of a follow-up educational program and it will be
continued till the GCE (O/L) examination in December, 2016.
