As the sun rose on the seventh day of orientation, students at the Department of Industrial Management gathered once again, eager to gain new lessons and experiences. The day promised a mix of inspiration, awareness, and skill-building, and it did not disappoint.
The morning kicked off with a powerful reality check. Dr. Manuja N. Perera, a Senior Lecturer in Public Health, addressed the students on Drug Awareness. Her talk was not just informative but deeply impactful, as she detailed the physical, mental, and social consequences of substance abuse. It was a session that encouraged students to think critically about their choices and reinforced the importance of a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
The next session was conducted by Temporary Lecturers Ms. Dinithi and Ms. Rupeshika about Communication Enhancement. Whether it was pronunciation practice, non-verbal communication, or research basics, students actively participated in exercises designed to refine their communication skills. They left the session with a newfound awareness of how words, tone, and body language can shape effective communication.
Following this, Dr. Ruwan Wickramarachchi, Senior Lecturer, conducted a 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗧 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀. From online learning platforms and research databases to software access and IT support services, he emphasized how technology can enhance both academic and extracurricular activities.
The final session of the day took a session with IM Alumi, where the graduate students of Department of Industrial Management took the stage, sharing their university journeys the highs, the lows, and the valuable lessons in between. They spoke about their academic struggles, friendships, and professional paths, offering guidance to freshers who are just beginning their own journeys. Their stories weren’t just advice; they were roadmaps filled with insights and encouragement.
With each passing day, orientation continues to mold these students into confident individuals, ready to take on the challenges of university life and beyond.
