The photographic exhibition “Mathematics in Nature 2016” Organized by Mathematics Students' society of University of Kelaniya for the second consecutive time. It was held on 12^th October 2016 form 9.30 a.m onwards at Photo Technica Gallery, Colombo. Seya color and Nikon Company are the main sponsors and ITN provided media coverage for the event. The occasion was graced by Prof. Kapila Senevirathna, the Dean of the Faculty of Science.

The workshop "Inspiring the Future Minds" was organized by the Mathematics Students Society and Physics Student Society of University of Kelaniya for the first time to develop the soft skills of undergraduate students. It was held on 06th of July 2016 at the Faculty of Science. First session was chaired by Mr. Priyantha Gamage and the second session was chaired by Dr.Narada Fernando.

 A ceremony was held to appreciate the thirty seven years of dedicated service of Prof. R.A.D. Piyadasa, Department of Mathematics, on January 22, 2016.

Professor R.A.D. Piyadasa started his career in 1979 as a probationary lecturer at the Department of Mathematics, University of Kelaniya. During his 37 years of service he actively engaged in research development in the department.

The speeches were delivered in honor of his contribution to the academia, especially to the department of Mathematics by the Head, the department of Mathematics, the Dean, Faculty of Science, Senior professor D.D.S. Kulathunga and the senior lecturer Dr. D.K.Mallawa Arachchi.

The academic staff members and the students of the department of Mathematics were present at this event.

Department of Mathematics has organized a field visit to Oil Refinery of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation at Sapugaskanda for thirty four students who are following Mathematics as a main subject on 24^th of June in 2015. Four temporary staff members and 2 academic staff members are also participated.

The main objective of this field visit is to provide an opportunity for the students to refresh and gain knowledge about how the theories they learned, can be applied in real life situations. Further, provides them a chance to have discussions with staff members to enhance their knowledge.

Mr. Edirisinghe, senior officer of training welcomed all and the presentation about the oil refinery was delivered by Mr. Kodagoda( Chemical Engineer). After that students visited the site with the help of two chemical engineers.
