Solar Powered - Digital Irrigation Control Unit

Solar Powered - Digital Irrigation Control Unit

Medium and large size are smart agricultural farms and thus the demand for smart devices to monitor and control them are rapidly increasing all over the World. Different devices and systems are available for irrigation control with sensors for agriculture fields which are powered by main AC voltage or batteries. If the sensors and main controller are powered by main AC power, it would be harmful to any person using or working near to electrical equipment if the protective control measures are inadequate or are not maintained properly. On other hand, the devices are operating using battery power which are needed proper maintain for long-term running due to limited lifetime of the battery. This invention has two separate devices that are the field sensor and the irrigation control device. Both devices communicate each other using long range radio frequency communication, enabling connecting distance up to several kilometres. The irrigation control device easily fixes to a water or a fertilizer pipe where the place has high amount of solar irradiation level. Then the irrigation control device automatically connects with the field sensor and control water or fertilizer supply for crops. The irrigation control device that allows maintain liquid fertilizers and water supply for agriculture field without using a battery and a solenoid valve. The device is powered by Solar PV, and it store generated power in a supercapacitor to powerup the electronic circuits in the device. It also includes a specially designed mechanism for controlling the liquid flow through the device. The field sensor measures soil moisture content, temperature, and humidity levels in the field then compare with the threshold values and send a RF signal to control the moisture level in the crop field.
