Personal Progress Development Program for Final-Year Mathematics Undergraduates

As part of its continued commitment to supporting the holistic development of students, the Department of Mathematics, University of Kelaniya, successfully conducted a series of personal development sessions in 2023 under the Personal Progress Development Program for Level 4 Honours Degree students in Mathematics. These sessions were designed to strengthen students’ personal and professional skills as they prepare to transition beyond university life.
The sessions featured several esteemed speakers who brought valuable perspectives from diverse fields. Prof. Sagarika Kannangara from the Department of Plant and Molecular Biology conducted a three-part series focusing on personality development through the Enneagram system and effective communication. Her engaging delivery encouraged students to reflect on their personality types and improve interpersonal skills through active participation.
Ms. M.K.A. Anoma Rathnayaka, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education, shared practical strategies for building resilience, managing stress, and maintaining a proactive mindset, offering students a strong foundation for tackling future academic and career challenges.
Additionally, Dr. Rohana Ulluwishewa, a former Associate Professor at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Senior Lecturer at the University of Brunei Darussalam, and an internationally recognised scholar in sustainable development and spirituality, joined the session alongside Mr. Sameera Sudam Jayasinghe from Inspire Village, an institute focused on service learning and community engagement. Drawing on their diverse expertise, they shared thought-provoking insights that encouraged students to reflect on the importance of social responsibility, inner growth, and active participation in community development.
The Department of Mathematics extends its sincere appreciation to all the speakers for their time, expertise, and dedication in enriching the personal development journey of our undergraduates through these impactful sessions. We extend our warmest wishes for continued success in all their future endeavours and look forward to collaborating with them again in our upcoming events.
