Dean's Message
Faculty of Science is one of the best and biggest providers of basic and applied science based education including research and innovation in Sri Lanka, with over 1,900+ undergraduates and 200+ postgraduates with a high annual research income.
The teaching and research expertise of the Faculty is extensive and is made up of eight academic departments namely; Chemistry, Industrial Management, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics & Electronics, Plant& Molecular Biology, Statistics & Computer Science, and Zoology & Environmental Management.
The Faculty offers basic science subjects Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Zoology, and a diverse range of applied science subjects such as Biochemistry, Computer Science, Computer Studies, Electronics, Environmental Conservation & Management, Management & Information Technology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology & Plant Biotechnology, Software Engineering, and Statistics, leading to many Bachelors and Bachelors Honours programmes covering all the science disciplines and interdisciplinary areas. In addition, undergraduates are having ample opportunity to engage in both co-curricular and extra-curricular activities which are guided by the academic staff with possible financial support from the authority.
Since the academic staff of the Faculty has been trained and obtained their postgraduate and professional qualifications from high ranking institutions all over the world, it is ensured that world class scientists are undertaking teaching and research activities of the Faculty and the students are provided with the best facilities to become the world-class scientists of tomorrow.
During the past 50 years, Faculty has experienced great successes and intend to build on those further in the future. The vision of the Faculty is to become the best Faculty of Science in Sri Lanka and to be one of the best in the world.
