The Intelligence became artificial: The past, present, and future

The Department of Industrial Management (DIM) proudly joins "Vidya 2017", with the vision of providing the visitors an insight into the past, present, and future of computing and systems engineering related developments. Under this broad domain, the visitors will be able to witness the development of hardware and software through the ages, and the near future of computing related advancements. Furthermore, the Department will showcase their experience of working with the industry to the general public in Simtech. The recent inventions of undergraduates of MIT, showcased through the Invention Convention (InCo), the in-house DIM competition to inspire young inventors will be unveiled to public under "Eco-trail". The DIM exhibits will provide both knowledge, interaction, and entertainment for the visitors attending "Vidya", to create an unforgettable and unique experience.

The rise of the artificial brain

The need for counting and simple computations has led to the development of several computing devices over the years. Man has gradually developed mathematical ideas and went on to invent better tools for computations and calculations. As a result, today millions of calculations can be made in just a fraction of a second.

This stall consists of the key landmarks in the history of computing, describes how these inventions transformed the life of humans and aims to provide the participants with knowledge on the evolution of computing, telecommunication and other aspects of computing.

Bringing "Vidya 2017" to a whole new level, Undergraduates of the Department of Industrial management are getting ready to display their innovative ideas at the exhibition. The stall will comprise of thirteen novel products and services with the main focus of sustainability for a greener tomorrow. The objective will be to introduce the solutions available for the reducing earth’s resources and build awareness among the general public of the importance of good environmental practices. The undergraduates are expecting to build consciousness about the areas available to innovate. Once you enter the stall you will get a sense of the green future we expect to live in.

SimTech contains the student product developments in the disciplines of simulation and technology. Simulation environments, engaged by undergraduates within their academic exposure and beyond, such as Supply Chain Guru®, a world reknowned modelling and simulation tool, along with Arena and NetLogo will be showcased with the applications to the industrial arena. Projects that are being developed by students will also take light in this stall covering areas such as image processing, embedded systems and natural language processing etc. SimTech in general aims to provide the knowledge on industrial environment and model simulation to the general public and the students. The Micro:bit Education Foundation, a non-profit organisation enabling children around the world to get creative with technology, will make their presence at SimTech with the arm based embedded system micro:bit, an interactive device used to educate students around the world in computer programming and building new things.

The shape of tomorrow

Stall AR & VR will be the little amusement park you will find at "Vidya 2017" exhibition premises. The origin of the word augmented is augment, which means to add something. In the case of augmented reality , graphics, sounds, and touch feedback are added into our natural world. Unlike virtual reality, which requires you to inhabit an entirely virtual environment, augmented reality uses your existing natural environment and simply overlays virtual information on top of it. As both the virtual and real world harmoniously coexist, users of augmented reality experience a new and improved world where virtual information is used as a tool to provide assistance in everyday activities.
