The Faculty of Science of the University of Kelaniya consists of eight academic Departments, namely the Departments of Botany, Chemistry, Industrial Management, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Statistics & Computer Science and Zoology. Academic programmes of the Faculty operate on a ‘Course Unit System’ i.e. a modularized credit based system within a two-semester academic year with end of course examinations. It offers a variety of course combinations designed to provide maximum possible flexibility in the choice of subjects. 

Faculty of Science provides a wide range of taught postgraduate programmes in various disciplines. All programmes are conducted by staff with a high level of expertise gained through their research activity, and professional experience.

In order to extend the knowledge and skills of the academia to the industry and the community, a “University-Industry-Community Interaction Cell”, named as “ENVIRONMENT & DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANTS (EDCON), UNIVERSITY OF KELANIYA” has been established in the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya with assistance from the University Grant Commission.

Publications, symposia & conference details can be found in the Digital Repository of the university. In addition to these the Research Services Centre & EDCON collaborate with the industry, facilitating commercialisation of many research and related activities at the Faculty of Science.
