Floriculture Research Center

Department of Botany, University of Kelaniya recently established a research center at Henarathgoda Botanical Garden Gampaha, ‘Floriculture Research Center’, to create bridges among the university researchers, botanic gardens and flower growers in the region.

Research center was opened by the Vice-Chancellor, University of Kelaniya, District Secretary, Gampaha, Director, Department of Botanic Gardens. Deans of the Faculties, Director Research service center, Assistant Director Gampaha Botanic Garden, Academic staff members and the members of the flower growers association were present at this occasion.
Objectives of the center are to;

    • uplift the floricultural industry in Gampaha District
    • provide training on modern techniques of plant propagation 
    • supply high quality plant materials in wide range of novel varieties
    • provide advisory service and exchange knowledge on nursery management practices. 

This will transform the Gampaha District floricultural industry to the international level by being able to meet the international quality standards of the plants.
